“Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me.” —Isaiah 46:9
There is truly none like our God! The unfortunate reality is many in our day have crafted a God in their own image. Their thoughts of Him are “too human” and that’s just what this little (but mighty) book seeks to correct. God’s Character also deserves more than just a fly-by read, Joel Beeke and Brian Cosby have created None Else, 31 Meditations on God’s Character and Attributes, “to guide genuine Christians, reading one chapter a day, in meditating on God’s perfect character and attributes for one month so that your mind will be transformed, your affections kindled, and your faith nourished by His grace.”
Each chapter is organized into 5 sections:
- Scripture Meditation – your focus for the day.
- Prayer – how to prepare your heart.
- Biblical Perspective – what does Scripture Say?
- Reflection Questions – how to apply and respond to what you just read about God. A step many miss in their theological pursuit!
- Digging Deeper – a more in-depth look at Scripture as well as book recommendations for specific attributes.
I just love how practical this book is. If you are a new believer this book will help you, through its layout, how to think and respond to the Lord. It’s actually teaching you the disciplines of prayer, meditation, and how to ask the right questions of God and your own heart (experiential theology). My 17-year-old will be taking my 11-year-old through this in the fall. It is a great tool to help him grow in discipleship. If you are a seasoned believer this book will drive you further into the Word and set your heart and mind on the heights of heaven: the Lord God Himself.
