I just LOVED this little book…little in size, but not little in Christology.
The first 35 pages is a short biography on major points of Goodwin’s life, and the rest of the book contains thirty-five selections of Thomas Goodwin’s Christ centred writings. I read one or two a day, much like a devotional. This book is one in a series put out by @reformationheritagebooks called, “Profiles in Reformed Spirituality”. I cannot wait to pick up a few more! I highly recommend this book to introduce you to Thomas Goodwin. He loved Christ. It is evident he thought and drank deeply of the Savior he loved. I guarantee this book will bless you! I mean who doesn’t love a guy that writes like this…. “The indwelling of Christ by faith….is to have Jesus Christ continually in one’s eye, a habitual sight of Him.
I call it so because a man actually does not always think of Christ; but as a man does not look up to the sun continually, yet he sees the light of it…So you should carry along in your eye the sight and knowledge of Christ, so that at least a presence of Him accompanies you, which faith makes.” If you pick up this book my prayer for you is one and the same as Joel Beeke & Mark Jones…that Goodwin’s Christ-centred piety may penetrate you and spur you on to read more of his writings, so that you may “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory both now and for ever. Amen.” (2 Peter 3:18)
