Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. (Psalms 127:3, NASB)
Getting ready to welcome a new life into our home is always such a joy and a blessing. What are some things we can do to prepare ahead of time?
During Pregnancy talk to your baby and pray for them.
If it is your first you are starting from scratch, if not, it’s time to take out those sweet baby clothes, clean them and organize them.
Here are some ideas of things to get ready:
1. Clothes: Remember that babies grow very quickly and depending how big your baby is at birth he/she may not even wear newborn outfits at all!!! Baby will use a minimum of 2 outfits per day. It is nice to have some cute ones for special occasions but for everyday it is good to find some that are comfortable and practical.
2. Easy storage: Keep clothes in an easy to reach and to organize area. Closet, dresser, bins divided into the different types of outfits for the season or weather.
3. Diaper changing station: A wonderful tool is a 3-tier cart where you can keep diapers, wipes, bum cream, a couple extra outfits. You can keep it handy in the living room and have another station in baby’s room.
4. Feeding space: On your cart you can have a tier dedicated to nursing supplies. Burp cloth, nursing pads, lanolin cream, whatever is needed if you bottle feed. Have your nursing pillow close by. And don’t forget water, a dedicated bottle helps you track how much you drink…it is so important to drink lots while nursing. I also had verses written on index cards in order to meditate on God’s Word. You will spend a lot of time feeding this precious gift, use it wisely.
Look at your baby. Resist the temptation to spend that time on your phone. You will never regret it!
5. Post-Partum supplies: One thing that has been such a wonderful help with healing is using hazel pads, Extra large pads and panties, a peri-bottle.
6. Some other items to consider and get ready would be bathing supplies, car seat, baby carrier, diaper bag.
Usually moms get a boost of energy in the 3rd trimester. Use that time to get things ready, make a bunch of freezer meals to have on hand once baby has arrived but don’t forget to rest as much as possible before the big day.
And If you feel overwhelmed, discouraged or are struggling, seek an older Titus 2 woman to come alongside you, pray with you and encourage you to be in the Word.
Planning is good and helpful but also remember that “The heart of man plans his way, But Yahweh directs his steps.” Proverbs 16:9
Sometimes we plan and have hopes for a specific labour and delivery but things don’t always go according to our plans and that is not a failure. Remember God is Sovereign over ALL.
