“Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaint. As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” (1 Peter 4:8-10 NASB)

We are to show hospitality to one another. Having people in our home is such an incredible blessing and it is God’s design for His children.

It can be intimidating to start having people in your home and it may be because of a misconception of what hospitality is. You don’t have to have a perfectly decorated house, matching plates and cutlery or the means to cater a five course meal!!!

Start with inviting a single person, a young family or older couple who would be blessed to have fellowship and be served a warm meal. If it isn’t financially possible to host for a meal why not invite people for an afternoon coffee. There are plenty of opportunities to be hospitable.

Prepping the day before can make it less stressful. Making a list of what to do the day of. Cleaning dishes as you go helps with not being left with a mountain of dishes after the company leaves. If you have children, involve them in the process. As you start opening your home it will become part of life and easier. Living in a small apartment doesn’t exempt you from showing hospitality. A dear friend had all 12 of us in her 2 bedroom apartment and we had a wonderful time of fellowship.

Be encouraged, open your home, all our resources are given to us from the Lord and it should be a joy to share with His children.
